Ask questions about getting published

Many new authors are hesitant to ask questions about getting published, but not asking can damage your career.

As young children in school, we were taught that it was good to ask questions, but the reaction from our peers definitely made us think otherwise. As adults, too many of us fear asking questions because of what other people might think.

If you have questions about your publishing process, ask. Don't worry that other people will think you are dumb. If you choose to remain ignorant, THAT is what is dumb. Your publisher, editor, or agent should never make you feel bad about asking questions. If they do, it may be time to find a new one.

Experienced writers sometimes get arrogant and forget that they were once new as well, just as experienced professionals in any career do. Network with people who freely share advice and information, and enjoy learning from their experience.
