Do People NEED Your Book?

With thousands of books being published each year, what about your book will make people NEED it?

Every year, thousands of book titles are published by publishing houses, and this doesn't include the remaining thousands that are self-published by individuals. With an abundance of new titles coming out each year, and only a few hitting the coveted New York Times Bestseller List, most of these books will fall along the wayside as just another pile of words on paper.

One of the ways you can make sure your book doesn't end up ignored and unappreciated, is to make sure there is a distinct need for your book. What defines a need for your book? It's all in the way that information is presented.

  • Your book includes new information or information not found anywhere else.
  • It includes information presented in a brand new way, such as to accommodate learning styles.
  • It presents information to a new, specific audience, such as water skiing for seniors.
  • It presents a new way to use old information. For example, gravity tubing for maple syrup tapping.
  • It encourages the reader to take a specific course of action, such as a real estate investment how-to plan.
  • It allows the reader to use their current knowledge more effectively.
  • It provides a simpler explanation than currently published books.
  • It provides more in-depth information than currently published books.

In order to be successful, your book needs to be different in one or more of these areas. By having one of these qualities that other books don't, you create a reason for your target reader to make a purchase; if they don't buy your book, they can't get that special information. You will use these qualities to write your book as well as to sell it.
